Hi! Welcome to the section of my site dedicated to tracking the progress on my attempt to build a multi touch table. If you want to know what a multi touch table is and which project inspired me to start this, look at this amazing construction on the NUI Group website forums by a guy called SpynalTom.
Since I'm new to this all I decided my first course of action was to build a model of the table as I had in mind. I'm very visually oriented and wanted to be able to old something in my hands to check dimensions, etc.
Here's the pictures of the finished model:
As you can hopefully see from the pictures, I'm going to build a coffee table sized object. Each Wednesday evening we have a couple of friends over for a session of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (yes, second edition) and I thought it'd be great to display maps, etc. on the table.
The table will be about 50 centimetres high and I'll probably add a metal edge so my girlfriend can "rest her feet". ;-) Most if not all of the techniques I'll be using, I've picked up from the NUI group forums which consists of an amazing bunch of guys and gals with a humongous amount of info on the various techniques.
For the technical guys out there, here's some specs on the table as I've decided for them right now:
- 93 cm diagonal screen
- PS3 Eye cam
- Short throw projector of some kind
- DI rear projection technique
- Laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 (provides native support for PS3 eye cam)
Lastly, I'll also be using some sort of tokens as fiducials for the entire setup so I can associate player characters, etc. with specific tokens.
More again later, bye for now!
